2-substituted benzimidazoles have been synthesized in a single pot from aromatic aldehydes and ophenylenediamine catalyzed by FeCl3/Montmorillonite K-10 in DMF at room temperature. The prominent features of this method include mild conditions, short reaction times, high yields and simple procedure.
